Syncope is considered to be one of the least studied and actual problems of the contemporary medicine. This is due to the lack of a generally accepted definition and national registries of patients, making difficult to study their epidemiology and etiology, the lack of randomized clinical trials and an unexplained prediction of this condition. In August 2017 the Circulation journal published new recommendations of the American Society of Cardiology / American Heart Association / Heart Rhythm Society on managing patients with syncopal epizodes. The main provisions of this document are set out in this message.

Key words: syncope, classification, risk assessment, survey methods, patient management, guidelines.
